Last year, Jon and I kicked off the Bottled Fuchsia Extra Life marathon with a race to the Dark World in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. The race remained close during the rescue of Zelda from Hyrule Castle and the acquisition of the Pendant of Courage from the Eastern Palace, but Jon gained a fairly sizable lead when I lost my way in the Desert Palace. I was unable to catch up to him, and had only just reached the moldorm in the Tower of Hera when he struck down Agahnim and was transported to what used to be the Golden Land.
This year, we’ll be racing again! We had several ideas: another race to the Dark World, a race through the same seed of a randomized Link to the Past game, and a race through Super Mario Bros. 2, to name a few. Ultimately, we decided on tackling a classic series that has been associated with the phrase ‘Nintendo hard’…
Extra Life will begin this year with Jon and I taking on the robot masters of Mega Man 3! With eleven (!) Mega Man games now, we settled on one that isn’t incredibly hard, and that we’re both familiar with but don’t know too well (which disqualified the first and second games, respectively). Join us at 8AM on Saturday, November 10th, 2018 to see who can short-circuit Spark Man, light up Shadow Man, and whack Snake Man the fastest.
